Chamberlain Group Inc., v. Skylink Tech., Inc.,
381 F.3d 1178 (Fed. Cir. 2004) -
full text opinion

This case involves universal remote controls for garage door openers. Universal remotes are nothing new, though - these days, you can get a remote control to control everything in your house that can be controlled, even if it is a bit similar to something out of Star Trek. You can even get a remote control for your pool. For more specialized needs, there's the TV-B-Gone, a keychain remote that turns off television sets.

Chamberlain and Skylink are both still in business, and continue to manufacture garage doors and things to open them with.
