Brown v. Ames
201 F.3d 654 (5th Cir. 2000) - full text opinion
In its opinion, the court mentions that the appellant, Roy Ames, is a music producer that specializes in Texas blues. There are many different sub-genres within blues, but Texas blues is distinguished by its incorporation of swing music. Blind Lemon Jefferson, pictured, was considered to be the first true Texas blues musician. He influenced other great blues artists like Ledbelly and T-Bone Walker (who in turn is said to have inspired B.B. King).
After World War II, many recording studios left the South and the Texas blues sound gradually disappeared. However, the 1970's saw a revival of the Texas sound with bands like ZZ Top and later, Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Nonetheless, blues was not the only kind of music to come out of Texas.
