Satava v. Lowry

323 F.3d 805 (9th Cir.), cert. denied, 540 U.S. 983 (2003)
#

A chrysaora colorata.

The kind of sculptures at issue in this case are made by first sculpting the inner object (in this case, a jellyfish), and then carefully wrapping it with hot clear glass. You can see a video of the process here.

Richard Satava is still in business, and you can purchase his glass jellyfish sculptures online. Other artists also produce style of art. One even offers a wedding unity service!

The jellyfish that Satava and Lowry sculpted, pelagia colorata, has since been renamed chrysaora colorata. They live primarily in Monterey Bay, California.
